Dr. Louise Aurélien Buie
Tuesday, Mar 01, 2022Dr. Louise Aurélien Buie is the new Assistant Dean of Executive and Continuing Education and Academic-Practice Partnerships at the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. She is a seasoned Nurse Educator and has served as faculty and program director for over 18 years at Palm Beach State College. "I implemented vision and strategic plans that have yielded curriculum excellence, exponential growth, program retention and completion, as well as increased interdepartmental and community partnerships," Dr. Aurélien Buie said. She is the recipient of the 2018 Martin Luther King Leadership Award from Palm Beach State College, the 2018 Achievement Award from Royal Palm Beach High School, and the 2018 Haitian American Nurses Association (HANA)’s Outstanding Nursing Leadership Award.
Dr. Aurélien Buie started her career in nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and has been a part of the Nursing Profession for over 30 years, practicing in multiple areas and holding varied leadership roles. She is a national and international speaker on topics related to nursing education, nursing workforce diversity, and healthcare needs of incarcerated women. Dr. Aurélien Buie holds a Doctorate in Education (focus: Leadership Educational Administration) from The University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida; a Master’s of Science with a Primary Care focus from Northeastern University in Massachusetts; a Post-Master’s certificate in Psychiatry/Mental Health from Florida Atlantic University, and a Bachelor in Science Nursing from UMASS, Boston Massachusetts. She is a dual board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. "My research focus is on the factors that influence the persistent underrepresentation of racial and ethnic minorities in the Registered Nursing workforce in the US, which in turn, perpetuates the healthcare disparities in minority populations," she said.
Dr. Aurélien Buie is the immediate past co-Chair of the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) Women’s Health Committee. "Together we published a position paper related to the issue of shackling of incarcerated women of color during the labor and delivery period," she said. "In 2019, the committee completed two resolutions regarding maternal, mortality and healthcare of incarcerated women." Dr. Aurélien Buie served with the south region team for the Florida Action Coalition. In response to the call from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) 2010 Report on the Future of Nursing, and to advance the Nursing profession, she and her colleagues worked on an "the Nurse Champion" project (2017-2019), aiming at empowering nurses in the State of Florida. Her philanthropic works has taken her to Haiti where she was instrumental in the education/training of the first ever graduating class of Family Nurse Practitioners in Haiti in November 2017.
Dr. Aurélien Buie’s involvements in the community include serving on Boards of regional and local healthcare corporations/organizations. She is the immediate past President for Palm Beach County Black Nurses Association (PBCBNA) and recently served as the Vice President of Sigma Iota Xi Chapter-at-large, Nursing Honor Society.

During her free time, she enjoys the beach, reading, traveling, volunteering, "and spending time with my family and friends."
